Warden Station and Park
Together with the East Central Alberta Heritage Society in 2017, the Canadian Northern Society embarked on putting together interpretive signs at several locations on the old Battle River Subdivision traversed by Alberta Prairie Railway excursion trains. One of these locations is Warden, located five miles south of Stettler Alberta where the CNoR Brazeau Subdivision branched off west to the Nordegg coal mines. Here, a small replica depot was further placed on the site of the former Third Class Station and was dedicated to former Agent-Operator G.F. (Fred) Fowler, who worked at this location from 1948 to 1953, and was a long-time supporter. The “Warden station” features a train order signal used for education of historical railway operations, and a variety of artifacts from when Warden was a branch line junction point. This is a great location to photograph Alberta Prairie Railway operations safely – and enjoy a few minutes relaxing in our outdoor arm chairs by the station.
